Methylfolate - Folic acid

Provides 400 ug of folic acid per capsule, in the form of methylfolate. In a complete, stable and active form, better used by your body than folic acid while having the same uses. 

Many supplements contain folic acid; however, folic acid must undergo several steps in the body to be converted to its active form, 5-MTHF. The final step of this conversion is carried out in your body by an enzyme called MTHFR which may have reduced effectiveness. Methylfolate does not need to be converted; it is in active form, ready for use by the body. 

Folic acid contributes to normal homocysteine ​​metabolism. This is important because high homocysteine ​​levels are a risk factor for several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline.

Folic acid supplementation during preconception and pregnancy increases maternal folate status. Low maternal levels are a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, in the developing fetus.
