Andrographis, also known as Green Chirette or Andrographis Paniculata, is a plant with multiple health benefits.

Native to India and Sri Lanka, this herb has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of conditions, including infections, fever, and viral illnesses.

Today, Andrographis is increasingly recognized for helping to combat certain bacterial and viral conditions, making it a versatile natural aid for strengthening immune defenses and promoting general well-being.

Andrographis Paniculata is known by different names around the world. Among the common names of this plant, we find Green Chirette, Kalmegh, King of Bitters, Chuan Xin Lian, Maha-Tita, Indian Echinacea, Carmantine or even Justice.

Whatever name is used, it is important to refer to the Latin name, Andrographis Paniculata, to ensure that we are talking about the same plant.

Andrographis has become particularly popular in the context of Lyme. This disease, transmitted by ticks, can cause symptoms such as fatigue, joint and muscle pain, headaches and neurological disorders. Andrographis is often used as part of the Lyme disease treatment protocol developed by renowned herbalist Stephen Buhner.

In the Buhner protocol, Andrographis is one of the five basic plants recommended to combat the spirochetes responsible for the infection.

Indeed, Andrographis has certain properties which make it an effective natural supplement to combat borrelia, the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease. In addition, Andrographis is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, which allows it to reach the brain and eliminate the borrelia present there. The benefits of Andrographis go beyond its action against Lyme disease. Indeed, numerous studies have demonstrated its beneficial effects in contributing to the proper functioning of the body in cases of colds, sinusitis, bronchitis and pharyngitis. The World Health Organization also recognizes the use of treatments based on Andrographis for certain respiratory infections.

Andrographis has also shown its effectiveness at the intestinal level; this plant is used to treat dysentery and has activity against certain pathogenic strains of E. coli, as well as against roundworms and tapeworms.

In a 2011 study, Andrographis was even found to be beneficial for ulcerative colitis and inflammation of the intestinal mucosa.

In addition to its properties in reducing parasitic substances, Andrographis contributes to the proper functioning of the immune system, making it a valuable ally in preventing infections and strengthening the body's resistance. Additionally, this plant has anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective and hepatoprotective properties, which help maintain the overall health of the body.

Recognized by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which makes the following claims: “Andrographis paniculata helps and contributes to better respiratory comfort, to alleviate respiratory disorders such as coughs, sore throats, a natural way. Andrographis supports the body’s defenses and helps strengthen the immune system.”
