L-Taurine
L-taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid. Unlike many amino acids, it is not incorporated into proteins but is abundant in many tissues, including the heart, eyes, nerve cells, and skeletal muscles.
Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid. Amino acids are compounds used by the body for a number of functions, including the formation of proteins. They are therefore often called the building blocks of proteins. However, taurine is a free amino acid that is not incorporated into proteins and is abundant in many tissues including the heart, eyes, nerve cells and skeletal muscles.
Taurine is used in the production of bile acids which are important for digestion and absorption of fats.
Taurine is the most abundant amino acid in the retina (the back of the eye)
Important dietary sources of taurine are fish and seafood; meat also contains a modest amount. In addition, taurine can be synthesized in the body from other sulfur-containing amino acids - methionine and cysteine. The rate of biosynthesis is low and requires pyridoxal-5-phosphate (the active coenzymatic form of vitamin B6) as a cofactor. Vitamin B6 deficiency has been shown to impair taurine synthesis. Taurine is therefore classified as an essential nutrient under certain conditions.
Please note that our L-Taurine capsules may appear slightly more beige in color due to seasonal variations in the raw materials used.
